What Is the Italy Family Reunion File Preparation for Visa?

Italy Family Reunion File Preparation is mandatory to apply for visa application. Few of its advantages are mentioned below:

  • It allows non-EU family members of someone legally residing in Italy to move there and apply for a residence permit for family reasons once they arrive.

The Process / Steps to Apply

Here’s the typical process for family reunification:

  • First, applicants need registration for appointment purpose because it takes 4 to 5 months for the appointment also applicant’s passport validity date must be more than one year.
  • Applicant needs to verify all Documents from Ministry of Foreign Affair and Apostille in Pakistan.
  • After attestation of all documents, applicant needs to translate all attested document from authorize Translation center

Request “Nulla Osta”

  • The sponsor (in Italy) applies for an entry clearance (“nulla osta”) via the Immigration One-Stop-Shop (Sportello Unico Immigrazione, SUI). Documents submitted include permit of stay, passport copies, proof of accommodation, income statements, etc.
  • A revenue stamp of €16 is required for the application. The nulla osta can take up to 90 days after the interview

Visa Application

  • Once the nulla osta is granted, the sponsor sends a copy to the family member abroad. The family member applies for a Type D visa (family reasons) at the Italian Embassy / Consulate in their country.
  • Submit the nulla osta, relationship proofs, passport, and other required documents. For non-EU family members of non-EU residents, the nulla osta is essential.

Recent / Important Changes (2024-2025)

  • As mentioned, since December 2024, non-EU sponsors (except those with international protection) must have at least 2 years of continuous legal residence in Italy before applying. There are exceptions: for example, holders of a research visa might not be subject to the two-year rule.

  3. Obtain housing suitability certificate
  4. Submit online nulla osta application
  5. Send nulla osta to the family member
  6. Help apply for residence permits once they arrive
